Tour the iconic Huntridge Theater, with photography exhibition from Mike Hill

So many have asked for us to open the theater before we begin the construction and renovations, so we agreed!  Let's open the historic Huntridge Theater for tours, while showcasing some phenomenal concert photos from the early '90s by local photographer Mike Hill.

Tours are 30 minutes in length. Join us at The Huntridge Theater at 1208 E. Charleston Blvd. (@Maryland Parkway). Meet your tour guide in the lobby. You must RSVP for this event.

The Huntridge has been many things to many people over its long and colorful life — a classic movie theater that evokes old-school Vegas, a ramshackle rock concert venue, a local historic landmark, a dormant shell of possibilities.

My Huntridge was the Huntridge of the ’90s: a no-frills, all-ages punk rock venue that gave kids all over the valley a place to gather in a city built for adults. It was a place for us to let loose, stage-dive, and shout along to the raucous songs of our favorite punk bands. The Huntridge was a place of joyful pandemonium.

These photos from 30 years ago reflect the wild energy unique to that place and time. Not just in their subject, but in their form: As a young photographer trying to create something new, I often experimented with different angles, slow shutter speeds, multiple flashes, and expired film processed in the wrong chemicals just to see what came out. I was a punk kid learning photography. In the sense that I continue to approach my work with a spirit of adventurous experimentation, I’m still a punk kid learning photography."

Mike Hill is a photographer based in Las Vegas. He grew up on the east side, attended Las Vegas High School, and saw The Specials, Bad Religion and many others at the Huntridge during the ‘90s. Mike's photos of Southern Nevada deserts have been included in recent exhibitions to help secure National Monument status for Avi Kwa Ame, Gold Butte and Basin and Range. His photos have won awards from Prix de la Photographie Paris, National Geographic, IPA, Adobe and American Photo.
